What is a Two-Two-and Two Tournament?
These are two inning mini-games (Two), with two runners on-base (two), and a 2-2 count on every batter (and Two).
So how does this work?
- Two teams square off for two innings with the above situation. At the end of two innings, a winner is determined. If still tied, a third inning is played. After 3 innings if there is no winner, then we flip a coin.
- We play round-robin, double elimination, until we have a winner.
- The non-playing team(s) can take batting practice in the cage, or infield work on the softball field until their next two inning game.
Why?
- Why not?!?
- Creates baseball pressure situations to renforce offensive and defensive situational baseball.
- By starting every batter with a 2-2 count, it saves the number of pitches pitchers throw over the course of a season while allowing baseball to be played.
Rules
*All normal baseball rules are still in place with the following adjustments…
- Every batter comes to the plate with a 2-2 count.
- 2 additional balls = walk
- foul ball batter is still alive
- can bunt, but if bunted foul a second time, the batter is out!
- Base runners/Batting Order
- To start, the last two batters in the batting order are placed on 1st and 2nd base.
- Afterwards, we use a continual batting order. Always placing the previous two players in the batting order on 1st and 2nd base.
- When one game ends, you pick up where you left off in the batting order in the previous game, placing the two previous players in the batting order on 1st and 2nd base.
- End of Game
- IF the HOME team has the lead entering the bottom of the 2nd inning, they do not take their at-bats.
- IF the game is still tied after two innings, a third inning will be played.
- IF after three innings the game is still tied, the visiting team will call a coin flip to decide a winner.
- Tournament Winner
- Game One: Winner takes a break, Loser plays (Home team in game two)
- Game Two: Winner takes a break, Loser plays (Home team in game three)
- IF losing team has assumed two losses, then they are eliminated
- Game Three and on: Continue with Loser staying on, or replaying games until all teams have two losses and have been eliminated.
- IF two winning teams square off, coin flip to decide Home team
